I only declared one person dead today...
Nov. 6th, 2005 10:12 pmWe finished the mass casualty section of our mountaineering first aid class today up a the Mazama lodge and it was a blast. I only moderately sucked as a group leader but I console myself with the fact that I was in the first set of rescuers to "find" our "avalanche scene." We actually did pretty well, only the guy who was dead on discovery died (there was no possible way in the scenario to save him since CPR isn't a feasible option in mountain rescues) and no one else had any avoidable injuries. I managed to contact the sheriff's department and keep everyone alive until a helicopter got there, and then hike everyone else out. Now if only I actually knew how to climb mountains. :-)
Which brings up my new goal: juggling on the summit of Mt. Hood.
