Trier was under seige. The glow of the fire from the youth hostel bathed the Porto Negra while the local merchants scrambled to protect their goods and deal with the invading forces. The communist insurgency was centered around Karl Marx house, which was to close to the comercial center of town, and on the other side of the trenches locals were scrambling to house the legions, so not a room was to be had in town. After ascertaining the dire nature of the situation, we took shelter in the Constantin Basilia, then made our way through the bowels of the roman baths to the catacombs, from which we were able to escape the city center.
