hanksan's dad and stepmom wasn't too bad. Some of it was actually sort of fun. We went down on Wednesday evening, spending more time driving to the airport than the flight took. H's dad and step-mom met us at the airport and were quite happy too see us which was nice. I started knitting again a few weeks ago and I did a lot of that, managing to finish two hats during my trip. Thanksgiving dinner was us, them, and two of the step-mom's sons, which was fine, and the food was good too. On Friday before our flight back we drove out to the family ranch just outside of Carson City (about 30 min from Lake Tahoe) and walked around hanksan's inheritance. All of the kids inherit a share in the family ranch.
Here is the most entertaining part of the drive: on the way back they drove us buy a house which Anne (the step-mom) really likes and has multiple living quarters - sort of like three connected houses. A 1.5 million dollar house overlooking Reno I should add. Which they said they would buy if we would move in there with them. And then I could start having granchildren for them. Hehehe. Yup, all I have to do is become a brood mare and I get a house. :-P There were comments about my never having to deal with the kids because Anne would be right next door and could look after them all the time. Heh. Anyway, way to one-up my parents - offer us a 1.5 million dollar house. But my parent's gift of a piece of property doesn't imply popping out a bunch of babies. Actually, Anne was quite restrained, didn't even mention grandchildren until Saturday before dinner. But OMG.
One of the things that made the visit interesting is that Hank's dad has always done rendevous, and apparently he, Anne, and her son Patrick are going to several a year now. So we got to talk about reenactment stuff, which was nice. And about period cooking. We may go to a rendevous with them sometime next year if we have the time - I could really get into black powder stuff. Yay shooting stuff! Hanksan says that he wants me to dress like a squa <hehe>.
