This is ovbiously a sit in front of the computer and avoid work day... well, actually I am waiting for my mom to come over with books that we are going to go sell (yes, as opposed to SOME people, we are going to GET RID of some books ;-) ) at Powells. Of course I do plan to get credit for mine. That way I can buy people books for x-mas even though I am broke. And then I will go buy pens for my calligraphy class which starts tomorrow night. I have five women signed up for my calligraphy class through park and rec - so far a record! Usually I end up with two or so people for my classes. We are going to do basic Italic so they can do crafty stuff and adress cards nicely and the like, but hopefully it will help improve the overall level of art in the world a tensy bit at least. Gotta start small...

I have had a day of mixed cooking experiances. I decided to try the over-night crockpot oatmeal thing, and I woke up to ugly sludge in my crockpot. Bleh. It would have been cool to have insta-breakfast, but apparently that was not meant to be. I think maybe my crockpot has no real low setting - the label on the knob lies. Has anyone done this over-night oatmeal thing sucesfully? I may have just the excuse I need to go get that crock pot I saw this weekend that has the fasten on lid for taking it places...

To improve my cooking experiances of the day, I made avgalemono for lunch. Mmm tasty on this wet and windy day. And I ate it with rosemany olive oil bread which I did not make but is very good anyway. I need to get the sludge out of my crockpot so I can start some chicken stock for italian wedding soup, which I love. Gotta have the home-made chicken stock for it though, IMO.

can you share your recipe for avgolemeno? its one of my faves!!!!

what kind of oats did you start with for the crockpot oatmeal? that can make a huge difference, I find...

OK, posted recipe... Um, actually, I remember buying the oats and that they weren't the quick cook kind, but I can't remember what they were. I remember trying to decide what I wanted, but they are currently sitting in an unmarked bulk baggie... So, what sort of oats do you recomend? I know my mom ususally like the scottish oats, but I may have just randomly picked something knowing me. :-P

I usually use the scottish oats (Bobs Red Mill). thats what we did last weekend. it cooks up nicely with a fair bit of texture (ie not wallpaper paste!)

I've never tried the crock pot thing...I know Alton Brown swears by it, so you may be able to get some info on his website?

I should be able to - I really need to schedule some blowing time, since I have been so busy working on my shop that I haven't gotten my but in to blow glas for what seems like forever. When do you need this marvel? I know a few other people wanted stuff too, so this is the time if I'm going to be scheduling a blow slot.

I do a variant thing, which is to cover my oatmeal (I like the steel cut variety myself) with hot water before I go to bed. Then in the morning I put the now-thoroughly-soaked biz into the microwave and nuke it about three minutes, and voila! Practically insta-real oatmeal, which suits me because, possibly weirdly enough, I just love the stuff.

I have another varient on the oatmeal plan.
I needed to eat after the workout on the way between Gym and work. I found out that if I put 1/2 cup of long cooking oats (the 8 minute kind)in a kids lucnchboxsize thermus, and covered it with boiling water to the fill line, stirred and sealed it, I have yummy oatmeal perfectly cooked and just cool enough to eat. Between the drive, the workout and the showering and dressing, it was probably about 2 hours in there.

Hey there! I lost your email address!

Your tulip order got slightly mixed up, and the sent a bag of all-white bulbs in place of the pink Greenland bulbs. Will this completely bum you out? If so, I am happy to refund that part of the $ you paid!

Can you email me so I have you address again? Thanks!

Nope, that will be ok. Hank actually prefers the white, it is I who like the pink. He is the big tulip fan, so no big deal. And since it looks like we are going to be selling our current house, where I am planting them, I can just plant new ones after we move. ;-) Emailing...
